Forming passé composé sentences


To form these sentences, you need to use the verbs ‘avoir’ and ‘être’. These are ‘les verbes auxiliaries’.
To transform -er verbs into the past tense you add the correct forms of avoir or être first, then remove the    -er and put an -é .

For example:
Using the verb donner, you would say j’ai donné
 
To transform -ir verbs, you do the same thing but replace the -ir with an -I.

For example:
Using the verb finir, you would say j’ai fini.
